Search Engine Watch references research group OneStat’s findings on how many search words are entered by percentage:

  • 1 word 15.2%
  • 2 words, 31.9%
  • 3 words 27%
  • 4 words 14.8%
  • 5 words 6.5%

This bodes well for domainers buying longer keyword type-in domains. Even 5 word domains can garner significant traffic. We own many 3 and 4 word domains (all dot coms of course) so this research seems to validate our approach. These domains are easy to get as originals so there is virtually no investment required. I can’t think of any financial opportunity with as low a threshold of entry as this kind of domaining: pay eight bucks for a domain, park it for free and it will compound.

And the beauty is that they have to go up because every time we grab one the pool gets smaller. And an inevitable economic truth is that prices rise as the commodity gets scarcer.
